Marshall Cat Sandpiper Sailboat sailing with a reefed sail

“Caper Too” is a Marshall Sandpiper, a traditional 15′ gaff-rigged catboat. Catboats were commonly used by fisherman across Cape Cod’s waters before power boats took over. Catboats are known for their versatility in shallow water as they need only a foot or so of water to sail over the shallows.

Don’t be fooled. This 15′ boat has the feel of boats almost twice their length. “Caper Too’s” ample cockpit and molded bench seats ensure a a smooth sailing experience. But bring your foul weather coat, a bit of salt spray is often part of the sailing experience.

On your trip, you will not only enjoy coasting along Barnstable Harbor’s shoreline, you will have an opportunity to steer the boat, work the main sheet, and perform other sailing chores. Or if you prefer, you are welcome to simply sit back and enjoy the ride.

Capt. Avery is excited to share this old-world experience with clients both young and old. The trips are most comfortable with only two passengers, however, agile or young folk can potentially raise that number. Call, text, or email Capt. Avery for more details.

Trips are 2 hours long and depart from the Barnstable Marina. Cost for the trip is $300.

Finally, sailing is dependent on wind. Sometimes there is not enough wind, and sometimes it’s just too windy. If you have booked a sailing trip with us and the wind isn’t cooperating, we have the option of taking the motorboat and still enjoying a relaxing harbor tour.
