Winter Garage: Fishing rods discreetly awaiting spring…

A belated Happy New Year as we are crossing into February…?

February is always one of my favorite months, not just because it almost always snows in February, or because it’s my birthday month, but mostly because it epitomizes winter for me. I was a snow baby.

As a family, we never traveled by airplane as my father was extraordinarily afraid of flying. His reasoning was that as young man in the army he was forced to jump out of an airplane with a parachute. I can understand why he found that to be terrifying. as I too am largely acrophobic (fear of heights).

Anyway, our family vacations were always driving to Maine to ski. After all, the story goes that my parents initially met in the hamburger line at the ski area cafeteria. That same cafeteria served me many a yummy grilled cheese sandwich & a side of fries. As I write this, I am reminded that lunch was preceded by a breakfast of french toast with butter & maple syrup. Wow, I wish I could return to that style of eating today…

It’s no wonder I love snow, and February, it’s basically in my blood to love winter.

Back to February…

Crossing into February

The past two years winter has had an especially wonderful aspect to it. As the picture above shows, my winter garage is my workshop. Over the past two years I have had an opportunity to try my hand at woodworking. The result is that my home is filling up with items I’ve created. I won’t say that skills are uber-sophisticated, but they certainly turn out some utilitarian pieces of furniture that make me very happy!

So what does this have to do with fishing? Not a lot.

I just wanted to take a minute to share with you all how this Cape Codder enjoys the long, and sometimes, quite brutal Cape Cod winters.
