Some like it hot! Picture of a thermometer reading 105 degrees outside

Some like it hot, but the fish really do not.

Thank goodness this record heat wave will soon be over. And luckily, normal summer conditions will return.

Unfortunately, not much about this season has been normal, standard, or typical. The fish have been hungry, finicky, non-existent, and/or abundant and there’s no predicting what each day will bring.

Nevertheless, this father and son team managed to hook up.

Also, this is a great moment to promote Patagonia tropic gear! I have been on the Patagonia Pro Staff for more than 25 years. Their lightweight sun protecting pants and shirts keep me safe from the sun’s dangerous rays. Almost as importantly, they keep me cool as well!

And back to the fishing part of the fish report…

Orange & White Foam fly with feathers and deer hair.

Here’s the fly that stripers like a lot when they are chasing squid. I suppose it’s a kind of squid pattern, all I know is that they like to attack it. Sometimes they bat it around, and other times they eat it up.

Doesn’t that beg the question of weather fish take flies or lures because they are attracted to them or are they just p***ed off!

Here’s the recipe for tying this fly:

I still have spots open in July and August so give me a shout out and get on the calendar!
